Walnut is the remedy to help protect us against outside influences in general, and against the effects of change in particular. As a remedy against the effects of change, Walnut is useful at all the transition points in life, from birth to teething to going to school to puberty to marriage to childbearing to retirement and beyond. It helps break links with the past so that we can move forward more easily.
Sometimes Walnut is given to horses who are having trouble being themselves because of the influence of other, more dominant horses – although Centaury may be a better choice in many cases. Otherwise, the commonest use for Walnut is when a change in the horse’s universe has had an unsettling effect. Moving to a new yard, having to assimilate into an excisting herd, a change of owner or rider – all these situations suggest Walnut as a likely remedy.
Things to lok for:
- Horses who need help adjusting to changes such as moving or the arrival of new companions
- Horses struggling to cope with life changes, such as weaning, teething, pregnancy, disability, or infirmity in old age
- A horse who comes under the influence of other horses or is disturbed by dogs, children or other outside influences
“For those who have definite ideals and ambitions in life and are fulfilling them, but on rare occasions are tempted to be led away from their own ideas, aims and work by the enthusiasm, convictions or strong opinions of others. The remedy gives constancy and protection from outside influences.” Dr. Edward Bach ~
